Is Endodontics/Root canals Treatment Painful?

Most people associated with Root Canals/Endodontics treatment may experience pain and discomfort during and after the procedure. However, the pain which they feel is caused by an infection present in the tooth. A Root Canal treatment is done to reduce the pain which is caused by the infected pulp with the help of modern technology and use of local anesthesia this procedure is quick, typically pain-free, and a great way to save your tooth.

Our Endodontist in Fremont performs Root Canals Treatment to save the tooth from getting damage, by measuring the Pulp tissue (contains the blood vessel and nerve of the tooth). If the pulp tissue is infected/damaged, then a root canals procedure is carried out.

The sign of infected pulp includes Swelling, Sensitivity, and Pain when bite/push on teeth.

According to the AAE (American Association of Endodontist), most of the patients feel little to no pain while Root Canals treatment is performed. Before beginning the procedure the tooth and the surrounding area are numbed to prevent the sensation of pain but you may expect some pain and sensitivity a few days after the treatment. Our Endodontist in Fremont will recommend pain relievers or pain medication to ease any pain and discomfort. If the pain doesn't clear after a few days, months or year it could be a sign of new infection and let our Fremont Endodontist know about this.

Benefits of Endodontics/Root canals Treatment:

  1. Helps you maintain your natural smile.
  2. Continue eating the foods you love.
  3. Teeth that have had Root Canals treatment last lifetime.

Post-Operative Care on Root Canal Treatments:

  1. As anesthesia has been used while performing the treatment part of your mouth will be numb for a few hours after the procedure. Avoid hot beverages and chewing until the numbness has worn off.
  2. Root Canals treatment is completed in 1 appointment but root canals therapy may take more than 1 appointment.
  3. A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth.
  4. To protect the tooth and temporary filling avoid eating hard and sticky foods. It is better to chew on the other side of the mouth.

"Dr. Tran is our long-time family dentist. We're all big fans of his work and professionalism. Trish, who also works there, is amazing. I lived out of the area for awhile and tried a couple of different dentists - none of them provided the level of service that Dr. Tran provides."
